The Best Breweries in Pittsburgh

The Best Breweries in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh has had a long history of innovation and industrial revelations for centuries. Some of the first explorers of this area were French settlers and the area became a prominent fur trading post. By 1758, General John Forbes began construction on Fort Pitt and the settlement was named “Pittsborough”. Steel, beer, and technology have all had their home here.

Roundabout Brewery

It has continuously ranked as a hub for beer drinkers and all things “brewery business” for many years. Pittsburgh is not just a huge city that has over 300,000 residents but it hosts the Allegheny River and more specifically, where the Allegheny meets the Monongahela River and creates the Ohio River. This area is known as The Golden Triangle. You can imagine how valuable this land was during times when we heavily economically depended on the water.

At this particular convergence, you can find several breweries such as Roundabout Brewery, 412 Brewery, and Southern Tier Brewery Pittsburgh. Roundabout Beer was just closed down this past year in 2022. They have a pop-up beer garden however that will continue into this year. They operated for 9 years at their location on Butler Street. The reason for their closure is due to them focusing more on collaborations with other local breweries.

They plan on continuing to produce delicious brews for Pittsburgh and its followers. Some of their signature brews are being created in other local breweries while they decide on their new location or what may come next for them. If you visit their previous location on Butler Street, you can still find an operation brewery. Coven Brewing is the new brewer in the facility that opened its doors in April 2022. They are very hop-focused and offer mainly IPAs. If you enjoy some hoppy brews, they are certainly worth the visit.

Necromancer Brewing

The main idea behind Necromancer Brewing is to “resurrect” past beer styles (hence the name). Additionally, they have a few of their own signature brews. The brewery is located on Babcock Blvd. and there is plenty of exclusive events and special clubs for all the local beer lovers. First, they offer something special for their queer patrons. The Queer Beer Club meets every month and has pretty cool benefits like exclusive merch and $5 pours on all beer.

If you’re not part of the LGBTQ+ community but you’re still hoping to feel like part of the gang, check out Trivia Nights every Wednesday. Trivia, beer, and even some grub. You can check out their specials every night as well. From tamales to sushi and poke, from what we have researched so far, it sounds like it’s always a guaranteed good time.

Strange Roots Experimental Ale

If you’re Pittsburgh inbound and have been searching for Pittsburgh homes for sale, then you may be looking for the best places to grab a brew. And in your thorough searches, you may have stumbled across information on Strange Roots Experimental Ale. There are three locations across the Pittsburgh region. They specialize in brewing traditionally with a creative touch. They prefer to get their ingredients from the local communities and do their best to support their Pittsburgh community.

If you make the trip to the Millvale location, you can expect to grab some grub as well. The kitchen is operated by the Pittsburgh Sandwich Society. At some of the other locations, and some of the locations of the other breweries we mentioned as well, the food trucks line up to give you the best of the local foods alongside some of the best beer.

A lot of the breweries mentioned are relatively new. There are older breweries and there are always new ones popping up. If you consider yourself a true connoisseur of new brews, Pittsburgh has a lot to show you. So pack a bag, book an Airbnb and plan your next visit to this western Pennsylvania city. If you come by car, you’ll probably get to pass through several other towns with at least one good brewery! Make it a grand Brewery Tour!
