Road Trip to Waynesboro GA

I think almost everyone loves to road trip; I know my husband and I do! We have traveled across many states, but we have yet to visit Georgia. Waynesboro Georgia offers many unique cultural experiences and affordable lodging. Put a pin on the map- we’re off on a road trip!

Things to Do Near Waynesboro

I always like to plan out a few different activities whenever we decide to road trip. What’s the point of seeing the country if you don’t stop and experience it?

Augusta Canal National Heritage Area:

The August Canal National Heritage Area offers so many different fun events throughout the year, and they also have a Discovery Center, which sounds just as fun as it is educational.

The Augusta Canal Discovery Center at Enterprise Mill tells the story of industrial revolution in the American South and how a city used its waterways to reinvent itself and define its destiny. Located in a former textile mill, the Discovery Center is your starting point of all canal boat tours. Be sure to allow time before or after your cruise to explore the exhibits, view the orientation film in the Rotary Club of Augusta Centennial Theater, and browse the Canal Gift Shop. Discovery Center admission is $6 adult/ $4 senior & student, or free with your boat tour ticket purchase.

Augusta Museum of History

My husband and I love museums! I think most people have a thirst for knowledge, which is why we love museums so much. The museum is a great way to experience different parts of the world, and history that is different from your own.

The Augusta Museum of History is dedicated to showcasing the long and illustrious history of the Central Savannah River Region through our Signature, Special, and Online Exhibitions.

The story of the Augusta area begins with the award-winning exhibition Augusta’s Story, which takes a chronological look at how the area got its start and how it has changed and evolved through the years, up to the present day. Visitors will also take a closer look at the River Region’s rich history with Signature and Special Exhibitions showcasing the people, places, and things that have helped make and shape this history.

The Greenway Trail

The City of Waynesboro celebrated the long-awaited opening of the Greenway Trail on Saturday, December 4, 2010. The Waynesboro Ice Plant serves as the trailhead. The trail links downtown to the library, recreation and school facilities and several neighborhoods. The scenic portion of the trail begins behind the old TG&Y building and comes out behind the Burke County Middle School. The trail is open to the public, including residents on bicycles, scooters, skateboards and other non-motorized modes of transportation.

Confederate Memorial Cemetery:

The cemetery is located at the corner of 6th Street and Jones Avenue. It is surrounded by a wall made with domestic brick. Isaiah Carter, born circa 1751 and died in 1817, gave the land for the cemetery to be created. There are 196 grave markers here that are readable but many more that are not. A total of 49 Confederate soldiers are buried here. Confederate Memorial Day services are held here each year in April.

Whew! That’s just the tip of the iceberg of what the area around Waynesboro has to offer.

The Perfect Road Trip Vehicle

Did you feel cramped on your road trip? You don’t have to be on the way back! Stop at Waynesboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for an updated (And roomier) vehicle! They have both New and Used inventory.

One of my favorite vehicles I have ever taken on a Road Trip was a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They are so roomy and comfortable, while also being able to handle some rough terrain. If Jeep’s aren’t your thing, they also have dozens of other makes and models in stock for you to check out. Never be cramped on a Road Trip again!
