Parma Vegan Cheese Review

To say I love cheese is an understatement.  I L-O-V-E cheese.  But after being diagnosed with an inflammatory medical condition in late 2020, I have had to come to the sad realization that cheese does not love me.  I have learned in the past few months that dairy products – along with several other food groups – cause me more harm than good.  In the best interest of my health, my only option was to send dairy packing.  It’s not you, it’s me.

As someone who could literally eat half a pound of cheese without batting an eye, this has been the hardest breakup of my life.  And I’ve been through a divorce.  But in order to be the best version of myself for my children, I have to do what’s best for my health.

In the beginning, I thought that giving up dairy meant I had to give up all of the things I loved to eat.  But the further I got into my journey, and the better I felt, and the easier it was for me to distance myself from the things that had been silently poisoning me for so long.  As I began to settle into my new dairy-free lifestyle, I began to explore alternatives for some of the foods I just MISSED.  Then, I was brought on to Mysterious Ramblings as a new blogger, and I was introduced to Parma!  And I can very truly say that this product has been a GAME CHANGER!

Parma! is a vegan, plant-based parmesan alternative made from nuts/seeds and nutritional yeast.  Having been a junk-food junkie for so long, I had NO CLUE what “nutritional yeast” was.  So, I did what any credible blogger would do – I researched it.  As it turns out, nutritional yeast is often found in vegan diets to add extra protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to help with any deficiencies that may arise as a result of cutting out animal products and byproducts.  It can be added to a variety of dishes, and studies have shown that it may help lower cholesterol and boost immunity.  And with all of the craziness in the world today, who couldn’t use a little boost to their immunity?

I received several flavors and decided to try the “Garlicky Green” Parma! first as I was already making spaghetti for dinner that night.  I was absolutely blown away by the flavor!  Now, keep in mind that while this is not an exact replica of parmesan cheese, Parma! DOES mimic the consistency and texture of parmesan cheese, which is a huge plus for me.  It has a unique flavor that is all its own that adds to the dish while not being overly aggressive in flavor.  Parma! played nicely with the other ingredients and complimented the home-made spaghetti sauce very well.

Now, when it comes to things like eggs, I am simplistic.  I generally scramble them in avocado oil with a little salt and pepper and that is it.  No sauce, no garnish – just eggs.  I decided to step outside of my culinary comfort zone one evening and try the “Better than Bacon” flavor Parma!  I was blown away by the smoky bacon flavor!!  It tastes like adding bacon bits to your meal without adding the meat.  It amazes me how great a product that carries labels like “plant based” and “vegan” could actually be.

Parma! covers your bases by being:

  • Soy Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Gluten Free
  • Certified Kosher
  • Vegan/Plant Based
