Five Kitchen Trends of 2021

If you are renovating your home, you might be wondering what some of the 2021 kitchen trends are. That’s why I am here – to share some of my favorite trends with all of you! Read through this list and then let me know if you have any favorite kitchen trends of 2021, as well:

Painted cabinets

A long while ago, yellow or brown wood was THE style, then it turned to white wood (most people painted theirs), but now, painted brightly colored cabinets are definitely in. To be honest, though. White was and will always be “in,” but I am definitely loving the new trend of colored cabinets. When you do paint your cabinets, make sure you are well versed in the technique that you need to use to paint them. This is important to make sure you will love your cabinets once they are finished! Do a little bit of research on Google and you will be good to go. Also, make sure you consider the other colors you currently have in your kitchen. If your floors are cherry red, you wouldn’t want maroon cabinets. In the end, it comes down to what you prefer – everyone is different! One great paint option to consider is ECOS because they are non-toxic. However, most paint companies are starting to make cleaner paints and Home Depot actually had this (sourcing cleaner paints) on their task list for a while, which is a huge step in the paint world!

Increased storage

Most kitchen renovations now typically include adding cabinets or replacing all cabinetry. A growing percentage of people add or upgrade pantry space,  whether that meant walk-in pantries or pantry cabinets. White shaker-style cabinets are always the popular choice for those adding cabinets or replacing cabinet doors, too. More and more people are prioritizing storage, but it just looks different from house to house. While some people add storage in the form of a pantry, others add it on their kitchen island, or add in extra cabinets.

High-quality countertops

Out of all the recent kitchen trends, this one is probably my favorite. A high-quality countertop will last forever and it will automatically increase not only the look, but also the future sell price of your home. Not all countertops are created equal, though. Different backsplash options

Houzz reports that an increasing number of those remodeling their kitchens are no longer doing those dated, short backsplashes (usually an extension of their countertops), but of course I knew that – the half backsplash walls were way outdated! White subway tile is still the top choice for most, but more and more homeowners are wanting to install multi-colored tiles which suggests a growing desire for statement backsplashes. A growing trend is to extend quartz countertops all the way up the wall to the upper cabinets and range hood. Almost 10% are now choosing to take backsplash tile all the way to the ceiling where there are no upper cabinets (often around the sink).

Flooring

More and more people are opting for wood flooring throughout their house, which includes the kitchen area, as well. For those that are not adding in wood floors, ceramic or porcelain tile is definitely the way to go because you can get multi-patterned flooring or an all-white tile. Vinyl is definitely less used, but it is very affordable, so don’t disregard it completely until you at least consider the option.
