Baby & Children, Everything Else, Reviews

Diono Rainier Review

My oldest daughter was 2 when my husband and I found out we were having twins. Twins!! Twice the love and twice the joy at twice the cost. When we registered for our baby shower, we included your every day, run of the mill car infant carriers – since our loved ones were buying everything in duplicate, there was no need to break the bank. Our infant seats were crash test rated, and very safe. But now that my daughter is 4 and the twins are 17 months, their safety has REALLY come to the forefront of my mind. These three are my world, and unfortunately, we live in a society where people are not the most graceful on the roads. Since we spend so much time in the car commuting from Point A to Point B, I need to have the peace of mind that my kids are traveling as safely as they can.

When it became painfully clear that the twins needed an upgrade, the choice for us was obvious. My husband and I received the Diono Rainier for my oldest several years back, and that seat is still going strong. We love the steel frame design, and the fact that we can sit them three deep in the back of my SUV. The safety ratings are excellent, and the product has proven itself to us already.

I love that it has such a wide range of weights and position – from rear facing from 0-50 pounds, to front facing from 20-90 pounds and on to a booster seat. My 4 year olds seat will soon be transformed from a car seat to a high-back booster – this momma’s heart just isn’t ready. With an extended product life, these will likely be the last car seats we need.

Installation was a breeze, and my 4 year old was so excited that her brother and sister had car seats just like hers!

While still rear facing, the twins have a freedom of movement they didn’t have with their previous car seats. They are able to move their legs while still being securely fastened in the seat. Small upgrades from our last model – such as the slimmer chest clip and smoother crotch buckle – show that Diono is committed to constantly bettering their product. The padded straps give the twins a place to lay their little heads, and the headrests are wonderful for those car trips where everyone ends up falling asleep. The car seats also hold the twins in a more upright position, which allows them to see more of the outside road while they’re in the car. If you ask the twins, the best feature of the car seats is the cup holders. Bottle goes in, bottle comes out…bottle goes in, bottle comes out!

All in all, we are thrilled with our decision to go back with Diono Rainier car seats for the twins. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy a good car seat that will outlast your need for one.
