As you have probably guessed and noticed, I have done a lot of reviews in my reviewing and blogging career. Coffee machines, food, clothing – you name it, I’ve reviewed it. One thing I have never reviewed, up until now, is a restaurant. When Mellow Mushroom approached me and asked to partner up and tell my readers about their new burgers, Herb and Carnie, I was more than thrilled, as I have dined at Mellow Mushroom quite frequently.
So what exactly is Mellow Mushroom?
Mellow is a state of mind, a culture, a way of being. Our mission is to provide delicious food in a fun and creative environment. We are the originators of Classic Southern Pizza, and our unique flavorful crust is a true original. We began from humble roots, born out of the free-wheelin hippie culture of the 1970s. The idea back then was the same that it is now, to make the most delicious, craveable slice of pizza on the planet. The Mellow founders dreamed of a world where happiness could be found in the simplest of things; like a mouth watering slice of pizza and a cold beer. Even today, as Mellows continue sprouting up our mission remains the same: to serve deliciously unparalleled and a cold craft beer in an unforgettable environment.
So, naturally when I saw that Mellow Mushroom has started to branch out into the burger market, I was a little apprehensive to get out of my comfort zone and order a burger. With pizza being what makes Mellow Mushroom a Mellow Mushroom, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the wide variety of other items I may have overlooked in the past on the menu, as well as the new burgers.
First thing me and my love tried on the Mellow Menu is the Meatball Trio:
About the Meatball Trio:
Three meatballs grilled with fresh mozzarella on a bed of red sauce with shaved Parmesan cheese and basil, sprinkled with breadcrumbs.
The first thing I noticed about these delectable balls of meaty goodness was the fact that the balls were so big they cut them in half, and put a big ole glob of mozzarella right there in the middle of it. Now, for someone like me who considers cheese a basic food group, it was love at first bite. The spice of the saucy, slightly tangy marinara sauce that drenched these meatballs was only the icing on top of the wonderful meaty cake. Definitely will be getting these balls of meaty goodness again!
Aside from the Meatball Trio, we also got a build your own salad.
Just like the title implies, we were able to put exactly what we wanted on our salad, right down to the bed of greens and being able for us to both get the type of salad dressing we wanted. This particular build your own salad consisted of a bed of lettuce mix and spring mix, broccoli, cucumbers, onions, provolone and fresh mozzarella cheese, ham, bacon, and avocado. 1000 Island dressing for me, ranch for him. The salad was beautifully presented to us and was assembled in such a way that I almost hated to dive into it… Note how I said almost…
Now, on to the main course! We decided to get one of each of the wonderful Burgers in a Mellow Way.

Oh, my dearest Carnie, let me count the ways that I love you. From your juicy, perfectly cooked meat patty right down to the perfectly placed pickle chips, every bite of this burger left me yearning for the rest of it to enter my mouth and travel down to my belly.
The way Carnie left me feeling as I swapped the other half of her with half of Herb from my boyfriends plate, I was feeling anxious and quite intrigued by the way Herb was staring me down as I grabbed him and placed him gently on my plate.
About Herb:
Our signature veggie patty made from quinoa, kale, brown rice and roasted mushrooms. Seasoned with roasted garlic and shallots. Earthy, delicious and filling – a patty both your spirit and tummy will enjoy. Finished with fresh avocado, garlic aioli, romaine lettuce and sliced tomato. Served on a grilled Brioche bun.
Now, Herb, let’s have an honest, upfront chat here. While I love the way you are beautifully assembled and presented to me, all I could focus on was the word quinoa. Me and Q don’t get along very well. Most time you are bland, and quite lifeless in the taste department.
After staring down this burger presented to me, despite all of my apprehensive and judgmental feelings against our beloved Herb and the quinoa contained inside his juicy goodness, I took a big bite. After chewing it up and wiping the access condiments from my face, I have a revolutionary thought – since when have I started liking Quinoa? So, thank you Herb, from the bottom of my carnivorous heart, for introducing me to one of the few quinoa burgers I can see myself ordering again and again.
As for the delicious potatoes that are served with these wonderful burgers, they are something that will defiantly be something I will try to mock at home and fail miserably as making them perfect. They are a much more sophisticated option rather then the traditional French fry, and they are honestly some of the best potatoes I have ever tried.
As if we weren’t already royally stuffed by the smorgasbord of food, we decided to top our meals off with two of the signature deserts at Mellow Mushroom. At this time I must advise that the following pictures are drool worthy, and do contain half eaten product, as I so spaciously spaced out and forgot to take a picture of these beautiful deserts before we started shoving them into our faces. In another fit of sure spaciousness, I did not up down the names of the deserts, but I will say both of them are sure to make your mouth water and please your inner fat kid.
So, there you have it. I am more than honored that I can forever say Mellow Mushroom was my first dining review and experience. The food was fantastic, the environment was fun, and the crew at this location made trying out their new burgers even more enjoyable then every other time I have been to Mellow Mushroom
