Portrait by Pierre #conlove

So many things have come out of the conventions I have gone to over the past 10 years.  Everything from meeting people I never thought I would ever meet, building beautiful friendships with fellow fan goers, and sometimes, even building relationships with celebrities I never even thought I would meet, much less be blessed enough to call them a friend.

Not to mention all of the amazing places I have traveled over the past few years in particular.  Everywhere from Kentucky to Tennessee, I have traveled to conventions not because I am obsessed with celebrities, but because I genuinely enjoy the whole convention experience.

One of those people I met 9 years ago was the amazingly talented Pierre Bernard JR.  He has worked behind the scenes with Conan O’Brien for over 20 years, and he occasionally does some amazing stuff on the air with him as well, and is one of the best graphic artists around.  Chances are if you are in the Stargate fandom or life drawings at all, you have encountered Pierre at a convention or event somewhere along the line.

I have had the pleasure of working and hanging out with him every Dragon Con he is able to attend over the past 9 years.  It’s very rare that I build personal relationships with celebrities, but Pierre and I bonded almost instantly when we first met.

Let me tell you – when you are around Pierre, life is never dull!  There are always people surrounding him, in awe of his work and how nice of a human being he is.

While I was doing my daily computing and checking all of my social media tags this morning, I noticed a tag from Pierre.  I opened it up, and I was floored by what I saw.

Every week on Pierre’s Blog, he picks a person and does a portrait of them.  While I often share his work because I find it fascinating and beautiful, I often thought about asking for a commissioned portrait for myself.  Lul and behold, the lovely Facebook post Pierre tagged me in, was a portrait he created of me.  I didn’t have to ask.  It wasn’t a review request (had to clarify that) He simply made it out of the goodness of his heart, and this made my fandom loving heart so full that he feels the same about me that I feel about him, after reading his blog post about Dragon Con.

With Dragon Con coming up this weekend, you sure will be missed, Pierre!
