Celebrity: Chris Kirkpatrick

Known for: *NSYNC, Sharknado 3, On The Line

It is still hard for me to believe the events that took place the weekend I met and hung out with Chris Kirkpatrick, as well as Joey Fatone (NSYNC), Nick Carter (Backstreet Boys) and AJ McLean (Backstreet Boys).  It’s kind of hard to define each meeting differently, as the whole weekend kind of flowed together into one big meeting, but I will do my best.

Anyone who knows me knows the word fan does note even begin to describe how much I adored NSYNC.  When I was younger, my room was floor to ceiling in NSYNC memorabilia.  I had lunchboxes, puppets, pens and folders for school… I even had one of those light up jackets they used to sell at Spencers.  Popstar Magazine even featured me in their fan faves section for my obsession.76909_10150324669140615_4706916_n

11113791_10155575718610615_4996997509021889907_nIf you told me back then that 14 years down the road, I would be sitting here typing this out on my blog, saying that I partied with Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone over the whole course of a weekend, I would have told you you were crazy and put you in a loony bin.

The first time I met Chris was on Friday.  I had already went up and talked to Joey Fatone, who happened to my favorite over the course of the past 14 years, so needless to say I was having a hard time pulling myself together.  I had the VIP tickets to Fandomfest, so I had a different line right next to the general admission tickets I stood in.  I was supposed to go in front of all of the people in the general admission line, but as I said, I could not pull myself together long enough to approach him, so I kept letting people in front of me.

I think what made the whole fandom pour out of me even more was knowing that I was standing inches from someone who I idolized all through my teen years, standing there, making eye contact with me as I ball my eyes out in disbelief about what is happening to me.

Finally, I pulled myself together, all nervous, shaking, and red eyes galore, walked up to him and was like “I’m so sorry I’m so nervous.”

Then, it happened… He opened his mouth and within 30 seconds of him speaking to me, I calmed right down.  We were talking about how he loves mystery boxes, comics, and all things nerdy, and I seriously felt so comfortable talking to him, it was like I was talking to my best friend.

At this event, I decided I was going to get a Dead 7 (the SyFy Movie that brought all these wonderful people back together) tattoo.  After all, boybands are something I have been passionate about for as long as I can remember, so it only seemed like a good thing to get, and what better time than right after you meet them?

I got my tattoo before the professional picture with Chris and we were talking before I got the picture and I said ‘May I have a hug for me picture?’

He smiled and responded “Yeah… I’m not hugging you on that side though cause I’ve heard tattoos hurt….” for those who have no idea who I am talking about, here’s a recent pictures of him, covered in tattoos.

Me, being the goofball that I am, decided to respond to him with ‘Honey, it doesn’t even matter at this point… bring it on in!” and he gives me the biggest/gentlest hug and I smile at the camera and we’re all spread out all over the place.

I’m trying to keep from laughing my ass off and the girl taking our picture was like you need to move over here…. Chris had no idea it was for the picture so we like shuffled over to where the picture was supposed to be taken… SO needless to say we both have crazy looks on our faces, and Chris is trying to squish me but not squish me.

The ticket I ended up purchasing for Fandomfest was the all access VIP Pop Idol passes.  There was a HUGE mix up with the VIP party….. When I purchased my ticket I was told at the Fandom Pop Idol level ($500) there would be a VIP party, Concert, and Meet N Greet – that’s how they listed it under the tickets.. Anyhow none of the guys knew about the concert, there was a ticket that was a step below ours (VIP Pass) and they were all allowed in the Fan Idol VIP stuff.

And to make matters worse, the boys were not told they were going to perform until 2 hours before the party… So, long story short, the official performance didn’t happen… But the 3 of them, AJ Mclean, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick sang In The End, the song in Dead 7 they were all supposed to perform at the party, over a track Joey pulled up on his phone, and then we literally just messed around and sang along with whatever the DJ played the rest of the night.

Needless to say, Chris, Joey and AJ more than made up for the mix up, but when I went over to Chris for the last time, he apologized and acknowledged what I suspected all along about them “Charging people $500 for a ticket and telling them we’re supposed to perform just to get more money out of you” Then proceeded to say he did not get paid for being there.

I explained to Chris that it may not have been a professional pre set performance, but you did perform and party with us and it was amazing…. And he was like yeah but that was not what you paid for that was us messing around I told him it was still one of the most memorable nights of my life and I hope he realized how much that type of thing means to fans.

Right before I left, I had to tell him about the experience I had with him 14 years ago, which was not a pleasant one, I started crying and explained to him what happened and that after I met him 14 years ago, I felt like I didn’t matter.  I had to take a breath before I even finished explaining because, let’s be honest, at this point I had no control over what was coming out of my mouth.  it was like the past 14 years of hatred came flooding back, I can’t quite describe that properly.13892030_10157250211350615_810551292035770556_n

Well right after I took that breath, he started talking and was like sometimes celebrities need to step back and think about what they say to fans. And he also told me about his similar experience with someone he met and then he stopped, and stated telling me no excuse for what he did, but sometimes celebrities forget that “to us, you are just another fan, but in that moment, it means everything to you.” I was balling at this point and explained that there’s not many times where you get a second chance at a first impression and I can’t belie “How much I hated you for all of these years and got nervous when I met people and always thought back to that day and had no idea in 14 years I would be standing face to face with you, not even having to remind you who I am cause you remember me from the previous day….” He snatched me up for a hug and said “I’m glad I could squash that”

Man, even re reading this and typing it on my blog, it’s so hard to believe that it’s real.  To most people when they meet someone they have admired over the years, it’s just a meeting – they move on.  I guess everybody feels differently about different things, but that weekend is definitely one I will never forget.
